The brand new Chinese Taipei domestic professional basketball league P.League+ tipped off over the weekend with both ASEAN Basketball League teams from Chinese Taipei; the Taipei Fubon Braves and the Formosa Taishin Dreamers in an exciting contest at the Changhua County Stadium yesterday. You can catch the full game here & the highlights here.

“The Beast” Lin Chih-Chieh scored 12 points, including the go-ahead 3-pointer with 36.92s left in the game, and the Taipei Fubon Braves rallied to beat the Dreamers 89-86 in the historic opening game at the Changhua County Stadium on Saturday.

Dubbed “The Taiwan Tussle” between the Braves and the Dreamers, which have always been a hot topic in the ASEAN Basketball League last season, their first regular season meeting in the P. League+ has been one of the most anticipated game of the season.

Cheered by 5,881 home fans, “Amigo” Yang Chin-Min made the first field goal in league history when he drove to the basket and made a layup with 10:10 on the clock. The host (Dreamers) started strong as former ABL World Import MVP, Anthony Tucker and Amigo Yang combined with six points apiece to spark a 12-2 run to give the Dreamers a double digit lead which they kept for most of the first quarter.

Yang Chin-Min hit all eight shots in the first half, including 5 of 5 from 3-point range, but “Jet” Chang Tsung-Hsien of the Braves was desperate to prove himself to his former club and he went 4 for 4 from behind the arc, with both stars scoring 22 points in the first half and the Dreamers holding on to a one point lead.

Jet Chang continued his hot hand in the second half, finishing with a two-handed dunk before the end of the 3rd quarter. However, the Dreamers held the lead behind the effort of Yang Chin-Min, Anthony Tucker and Jerran Young.

The Braves finished the game with an impressive 12-0 run as the Dreamers failed to score in the last five minutes of the game. Lin Chih-Chieh showed his star value when he stepped up down the stretch. He assisted Jet Chang for a layup with 2:28 remaining to cut the lead to 4. He then knocked down back to back 3-pointers, including the go-ahead 3-pointer with 36.92s left in the game to seal the victory for the Braves.

Jet Chang led the Braves with 34 points, including six three pointers. Ukrainian import Ihor Zaytsev had a double double with 15 points and 13 rebounds.  ‘Beast’ Lin Chih-Chieh had 12 points while Mike Singletary also logged an impressive performance with 9 points, 14 rebounds and 4 assists.

The Dreamer’s top performer was Amigo Yang with 30 points. Anthony Tucker and fellow import, former Singapore Slingers ace, Jerran Young finished with 18 and 16 points respectively.

It was a kick in the teeth for the Dreamers, and further disappointment followed as the Dreamers suffered back to back home losses when they were thrashed by the TaoYuan Pilots 103-83 on Sunday.

Next weekend, the Taipei Fubon Braves will be on the road to take on the Hsinchu Jko Lioneers on Sunday.
